Nathaniel Wood
Nate teaches classical violin, including an all-round education in aural and theory skills. He has also taught beginner piano. He is a current student of Specialist Music Studies at the University of Western Australia, studying violin and composition, and has an AMEB Associate in Violin Performance. He is currently receiving lessons from Shaun Lee-Chen, concertmaster of the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra. Nate is a violinist, but also plays some piano, guitar and drums, and can sing.
He previously taught violin at Go Instrumental Mundaring for 3 years. He mainly plays experimental and classical music, but has experience in electronic music, rock and jazz, as well as Balinese gamelan. Nate is a regular performer in experimental and improvisatory contexts in Perth as a soloist and a participant in flexible ensembles such as Breaking Waves, and numerous ad-hoc duos and trios. He formerly performed with the Western Australian Youth Orchestra for 5 years, regularly in the Perth Concert Hall, and toured Singapore and Japan in December 2016.
He currently performs with the UWA Symphony Orchestra, and in a string quartet and small chamber groups as Score Division Ensembles. Nate is a student of composition, and has had compositions performed in the Perth Town Hall, and regularly in Callaway Auditorium, Spectrum Project Space and at Four5Nine Bar.
Nate formerly performed in a post-punk band with fellow students, performing vocals and bass guitar, as well as song-writing.
